It is Well...
Well, Well, Well, my cat fell in the well....Well Done or Medium Well?...well, shall I go on?
The word "Well" has a variety of meaning. Check out your local dictionary.com for details.
But what does it mean, "It is well with my soul"?
IT: in the song refers to happiness, sadness, triumph, tragedy, peace, or turmoil, or any situation of experience
IS: Now! Not going to be, not has been, but AT THIS MOMENT
WITH: gives a concept of something that doesn't easily flee or flitter about.
WITH is a constant.
MY: Belonging to me
SOUL: the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.
So, saying "It is with my soul" is accurate, it is correct. Whatever in your circumstance "IT" is, "it" is.The difference comes in how you respond to "IT".It is 'tough' with my soul; It is 'irritating' with my soul; AHHH...here's one more common than we humans like to admit:
"It is FIGHTING AGGRESIVELY with my soul"
What makes "IT" "WELL"? Satisfactory, pleasing, or good
The moment you make a decision that whatever you encounter, good or bad, can and will be used to grow you, change you, and create you into the person you need to be for those around you and for yourself...then the storm, the battle, the pain...then the "IT" is good and pleasing, and brings satisfaction. Then, and only then can every encounter you experience speak to your heart loudly,
"IT is WELL with my Soul"
